Three Strikes, You're Out

When I was a young boy my father took our family to a Milwaukee Brewer's baseball game. Being my first experience with professional baseball, I asked about the rules of the game. He told me that each batter got three strikes, and then they were out. I asked my father what it mean to be 'out.' His answer to my question was "They don't get to bat any more."

In my child's mind, "They don't get to bat any more." translated into "They are kicked off the team and never get to play pro level baseball again."

This resulting in me believing that baseball was a very hard game, and I felt very sad for the players who struck out. This all led to mass confusion when the batting order came around to them again.

I used to be stupid.
