When I was a young kid, I was a big AWA wrestling fan. There was a wrestler at the time named Greg Gagne (pronounced gone ya), son of famed wrestler Vern Gagne. Well it just so happened around the same time there was a baseball player for the Minnesota Twins named Greg Gagne (pronounced gag nee). Well as a kid I was convinced they were the same person and I wondered how it was possible for one guy to be a professional wrestler along with being a professional baseball player.

A special FYI for LJ: Bo Jackson & Deion Sanders were each really one person. We figured out how to get the same person into multiple sports by the 1990s.

Nate shares the following misconception of broadcast media:

Being a sports fan, I used to regularly watch NBA games on the weekend with my dad, sometimes a double header. What confused me on the day of a double header was that as soon as the first game was over, the next would start in a completely different looking arena. I inquired as to how they could paint the floor so fast for two totally different teams, and have it be dry in enough time for them to immediately start playing on it. I was informed that it was actually a different arena.

I also thought the radio worked in a similar fashion, with a large stage with the bands in a line waiting to go live and play their one song and quickly getting out of the way for the next performer.....

I was completely stupid.

When I was a young boy my father took our family to a Milwaukee Brewer's baseball game. Being my first experience with professional baseball, I asked about the rules of the game. He told me that each batter got three strikes, and then they were out. I asked my father what it mean to be 'out.' His answer to my question was "They don't get to bat any more."

In my child's mind, "They don't get to bat any more." translated into "They are kicked off the team and never get to play pro level baseball again."

This resulting in me believing that baseball was a very hard game, and I felt very sad for the players who struck out. This all led to mass confusion when the batting order came around to them again.

I used to be stupid.
